Doctors and researchers meeting in São Paulo, Brazil, last week issued a dire warning. Latin America, they said, is at risk of being overwhelmed by a burgeoning cancer epidemic. Area colleges, universities ban, discourage tobacco use

Smokers are finding some places for Area College and University Campuses and for those who face smoking bans. Secondary institution from India banned smoking ad in general all tobacco use before Indian’s State make the same decision on July 1. Hammond’s Purdue University and Indian University don’t have any smoking areas on campus. We opted to be tobacco-free campus. Tobacco use at sporting was among the topics for discussion at the annual meeting of the Children’s strategic policy of the Council of the Coalition to reduce substance abuse among youth. St. Olaf may be a dry campus, but it is certainly not without tobacco. It is not uncommon to get out of Buntrock Commons and hit a few students smoke on others, or benches near the door. This occurs outside the entrance to the hostel as well, and this phenomenon is not limited to cigarettes. Students also use pipes, hookahs and cigars. The fact that some students on campus smoke does not mean that St. Olaf is experiencing an epidemic of tobacco dependence. Are state employees not fussing up to tobacco use?

Lord knows we love all the employees of the state. And woe to that of any local politician who dares to doubt that every public servant is one of the best, hardest working, best promising people ever created. So it is with a heavy heart I must report evidence of many public employees and retirees may lay pig dogs. What could cause these hardworking, nice people lie? Thirty dollars a month, it seems the price. In the past year, lawmakers in Texas was a good idea (hey, one of the bazillion is not bad). The idea turned into law, “smoking cessation” program for state employees and retirees, including higher health insurance for smokers and drug coverage for smoking cessation.
