Electronic cigarettes

About electronic cigarettes we can talk anytime, because this is a subject that is often discussed in the entire world. And everyone has the same question, if it is better to smoke them or stay to tobacco smoking.

Tonya Moraffah is a 54-year-old executive assistant from Tustin, California and she is considering herself a nonsmoker, because she is smoking electronic-cigarettes. She also affirms that she doesn’t like to smoke like a cigarette. Anyway she is very pleased that she no longer carries a lighter or sucks breath mints all day in the office.

This woman says that she feels healthier than she was smoking tobacco. E-cigarettes contain cartridges of nicotine that releases vapor that should be inhaled. There’s no odor or smoke.

A lot of people believe that they are safer than traditional cigarettes and that the risk to have lung cancer or a hurt attack is lower. But even thought you smoke Lady cigarettes, Parliament or electronic cigarettes it doesn’t mean that one is safer than another.

But those claims are disputed by the Food and Drug Administration. The agency has warned in July that the smokeless cigarettes cause health problems, too. The government has made an analysis of a made-in-China product and they have found toxic chemicals and carcinogens.

Electronic cigarettes have never been evaluated from FDA and have never been approved either. That is why the agency doesn’t know the exact amount and kinds of chemicals and the level of nicotine. Only limited testing was made, but they were not enough.

Craig Youngblood, founder of In Life, an Irvine, California, seller of e-cigarettes, does not agree with the lab findings and insists his products contain ingredients that are safe and nontoxic. He affirms that they are an alternative to tobacco. And that they have never said that after smoking electronic cigarettes a person will have big muscles or will live till 130.

The e-cigarette models vary. Moraffah prefers a device that looks like a fancy ink pen. Another resembles a regular cigarette except the bright end is blue, not the color of a flame. They cost about $100, plus the cost of nicotine cartridges in various strengths. The devices carry a warning label saying they have not been approved by the FDA for smoking cessation and should be kept out of reach of children.

The federal government has calculated that more than 430,000 premature deaths each year are caused by tobacco smoking or secondhand smoke. But the spokesman for the American Lung Association, Dr. Ira Jeffry Strumpf, who is also a pulmonologist who teaches at UCLA said that there was brought no proof that e-cigs are safer. The vapor that smokers inhale from the alternative cigarette is not pure nicotine but it contains some other contaminants

When the FDA looked at 19 of these cartridges, they found half the samples contain impurities that are known to be toxic to humans. At least one cartridge contained diethylene glycol, one of the toxic compounds of antifreeze. Strumpf says he’s worried that e-cigarettes are sold not just to people who want to quit smoking, but also to persons who have never smoked before.

Brad Rodu, a tobacco researcher at the University of Kentucky in Louisville, considers e-cigarettes a better alternative for smokers who absolutely can’t break their addiction.

No one can’t say that these cigarettes are perfectly safe, but with everything they know about them they can say for sure that they are vastly safer than continuing to light cigarette tobacco on fire and inhaling the 3,000 or 4,000 chemicals that cigarette smokers are doing right now.
